How do I connect branches of a tree? Add siblings?

I am trying to add a sibling to an ancestor and it forces me to create a new branch. When I create the new branch, it does not show up on the main tree. It happens with any person that I click in the tree. How do I connect them?

Well they are still there. It just doesn't show everyone on the tree all at once because that would get crowded and confusing.
