In my HP family tree, i'm trying to show distant relationship, but I don't know the inbetweens.

You could put in a bunch of unknowns if you know the number of generations. If you don't know the number of generations, you could put in one place holder and call it something like "unknown number of generations".

HP normally has very good documentation on their printers, so I think you could probably find the generation with a little research.
