Basically I've got (what I think) is a decent sized tree (~600 members). I am working on making some mass changes / additions, which are quite tedious on the site, but could be done quickly in Excel or another spreadsheet program. I know I can download the data to CSV and view / edit it externally. Is there a way I can then take that data and re-load into the original tree with the new information?

I have also tried creating a whole new tree with the file, but it doesn't seem to read it.

There's no built in functionality to import a CSV file at Family Echo. But there are programs that convert CSV files to GEDCOM. I haven't actually used any of them, but a quick Google search shows that they exist.
