How can I add someone as an "ancestor"

I have two people, let's say X and Y. I know that X and Y are related directly, but I don't know how many generations up from X that Y is, and I don't know the names of the generations up until Y. Is there a way that I can add Y as an "ancestor" showing that they are not related as parents but as "ancestors" with an unknown amount of generations between them?

There's no built in functionality for that. You could try something creative like adding a person with a name like "Unknown number of ancestors" between the two people.
