Several people have reported having trouble using the auto email feature. Seems like there may be a bug in this option. You can send an email manually using your email client. From the sharing option window you can copy the web link then paste it into your email message. Be sure to set or clear the edit option to the desired setting before clicking on the [Done] button. It seems like once you give edit permission it can't be revoked.
