Is it possible to import another family tree in to your tree using a common person as the link ?

It is impossible for one person to build the entire family tree. If several persons can make their own tree and share it with each other and if these can be combined, then one can make a large tree and visualise the linkages, even far flung ones. If there is way this can be done, pls share.
