In our family, people are normally recognised by their nicknames and not many actually know a person's real name. What would you recommend in displaying this information?

[First name] '[Nickname]'.

ie, put it in inverted commas after the real first name.

Thanks, this added an unspoken question as some databases add 'aka' or nickname...Find-a-Grave, and others.
Inverted commas are called single quote marks.
...
