Is there a setting to change females to circles?

No; different colors are used to indicate male (bluish) or female (pinkish) or neither/unknown (white).
It would be nice to use different shapes (rectangle, oval, rectangle with curved/sharp corners,...) to indicate sex so printing B&W would convey that info.  Similarly, increase/decrease the border line width to indicate living vs deceased.
