how can I have parents and children showing on the screen together.

If I come back to work on parents, but I want to see the children on the screen I have to say add child so it will bring it up

You can show the children on the screen by changing the generations of "children" at the bottom. Then, when you select a parent, it should show their children and limited further descendants. To add a child to theparents, you choose "add child" in the sidebar.
