Yes, there are technical limits on the site. Back in March when I hit around 22500 people, I was locked out of my tree. I wrote to technical support, and the response came that I had hit against "some internal limit" which was then doubled.

That should theoretically put the current limit around 45000 people but we can't be sure that it's as straightforward as that.

I'm not sure, it started getting glitchy only when I was only on 185 people. However, it never locked me out.
