How do I ensure photographs are in Portrait mode ?

I have tried adding photographs to my tree , and 'portrait' originals sometimes appear rotated into Landscape for no reason. Is there a way of dictating that the photo stays in portrait mode ?

I edit & crop photos to Portrait mode in Image Editing software to orgnaise photos in portrait mode.
