I've come across this problem many times; as I'm currently making my own family tree, and when I do historical family trees.
I wish to add my father-- step-father as my adopted father, but when I do so, it duplicates not only me, but my partner and her side of the family.
The duplication problem comes up especially when I'm trying to do historical family tree for Europeans where inbreeding has been a big thing.
